Through this award we recognise achievement from those at all stages of their career. Impact on the sector can come from a single project or continuous work over a lifetime - this award shines a light on an individual who has contributed in either way.
We are delighted to announce the winner for the Significant Individual Impact award: Mathias Uhlén.
Professor Uhlén has had a huge impact on the research reagent sector through his career. His work has centred around protein science, antibody engineering and precision medicine. He is a member of the US National Academy of Engineering, Royal Swedish Academy of Science, Swedish Academy of Engineering Science and EMBO.
His contribution in the field of antibody validation has been significant. As chair of the International Working Group on Antibody Validation, the group released a seminal paper in Nature methods outlining a proposal known as the "five pillars of antibody validation" which had a lasting impact on the research community and many antibody stakeholders.
Some of his particularly impressive achievements include:
- Over 750+ publications to his name, with a citation count of over 80,000
- Leadership of the Human Protein Atlas, a resource to systematically map the human proteome and transcriptome
- Co-founded 20+ biotechs and has 70+ international patent applications to his name
- Founding Director of the Science for Life Laboratory (SciLifeLab), the Swedish national centre for molecular bioscience.
Dr Andrew Chalmers, CEO and founder of CiteAb said "Mathias has consistently gone above and beyond to create impact in the reagent sector through his research, innovation and initiatives. The list of accomplishments to his name is pretty remarkable! I'm sure many in the industry will join us in congratulating him for this well-deserved win."
